Do you feel tired all the time? Do you feel 'wooden'? Would you like to take a free personality test?

Re: Dembot - Anonymous Protests

I personally don't believe that the MSM were out of touch concerning the February 10th, 2008 protests. In fact, I believe they made a choice to ignore. No, I have no solid base for this claim, but the MSM's lack attention flies in the face of it's nature to pounce on every scandalous news bit. Why not this one. Considering Scientology's zeal for the LACK of negative publicity, I would further venture to say that Scientology had a lot to do with the lack of coverage.

Anonymous wanted the media's attention, and they didn't get it. However, the internet didn't miss it. So it's still a victory for Anonymous somewhat.

Forgive any typos. It's late and haven't the energy to check for grammar.

G'night!

Re: Dembot - Anonymous Protests

Spilling over from the RB comments here.

I wonder if MSM is avoiding it because of how silly it looked when it covered Anonymous' attempt to shake things up last time. Weren't they billing Anonymous as a terrorist against all things good?

Perhaps it was a 'script' note from the White House. "Put this anonymous to rest - we have had enough of people hiding behind the freedom of speech".

Re: Dembot - Anonymous Protests

Everybody, (the general public, including the mainstream media) didn't take it seriously as a "protest".

It's been taken as a flashmob or an Improv Everywhere situation where it's viral nature and internet association has undercut it's severity.

It's kind of sad to see the effort wasted.

Re: Dembot - Anonymous Protests

Maybe this was a good thing that MSM wasn't there. Wasn't it Matt Drudge that broke Monica Lewinski story. Andrew, thanks for getting me motivated to go down to this event in Philly!

Re: Dembot - Anonymous Protests

Oh yeah. That was today...

Re: Dembot - Anonymous Protests

I saw the Austin one. You're correct that there was no mainstream media there... they covered it on Australian TV though.

I was particularly shocked by the number... there aren't a ton of people in Austin, but the size of the protest was 100+, which I was impressed by.

Re: Dembot - Anonymous Protests

Local media covered the event to some degree here in Australia. The Sydney protest made the front page of www.news.com.au (News Corporation), and more locally, in Adelaide, the protest got a write-up on the adelaidenow.com.au website (NewsCorp too). There was also a TV news report (only about 30 seconds) on Channel 7's (local) evening news covering the Adelaide protest.

Sure, nothing as big as CNN or NYT, but it wasn't totally all quiet on the western front. Nevertheless, I would've liked to see a bit more discussion about it.
