Hmmm. You can do comments? This is a 3rd party thing, right? Neato!

And you've certainly opened my eyes to this little world. Thanks, Andrew. Happy 08.

You're onto something here. I've been reading that Twitter is killing the blogosphere and causing content writers/creators to become lazy and to not only write, but think in 140 characters and its context.

Tumblr as a platform, with its simplicity has a chance to build a community of real content creators and more importantly those who like to share. Not everyone creates. But why create if you can't distribute. No other system on the web makes it as simple as Tumblr does.

    And all this stops when?

I think I might agree with you on this, Andrew.

Hmm... I agree Tumblr is pretty damn cool, but it doesn't replace Twitter for me mostly because of the community factor. I'm sure the Tumblr community will grow and grow and may overtake/outlast Twitters' in the long run -- hell we might even see a merger of these platforms (or ones like them). The microblogging format is still in its infancy and a ton of people are still finding out about these tools everyday.

As far as usefulness is concerned Tumblr definitely gets the nod. But Twitter still has a lot of life in it... if anything is dead to me, it's plain-old vanilla blogging.

Where's the public timeline feature in Tumblr? A key feature of Twitter which makes it unique is the ability to take a peek at what people all over the world are doing at a given moment in time. This is what makes Twitter special. I don't see Tumblr competing in the same arena. They are two very different things.

Farouq Taj, the timeline is the stream in your Dashboard.

I started using Twitter and Tumblr about 6 weeks ago, and my first impressions are right in line with your opinions here. I guess first impressions really do make a difference.
