Dembot: The Apple TV

You're right, the "Train Wreck" article was unimaginative. Who could ever imagine that the folks that wrote 60,000 iPhone apps in a little over a year would be able to rewrite a few of their apps for a larger screen size? The TV angle is a little more imaginative, but not too hard to come up with. I used a Kindle for the first time the other day and thought "wow, maybe I might want an Apple Tablet, after all!"

I never bought into the idea of watching TV or movies on a little computer screen until I got a SlingBox - now my regular TV is a dust collector. If they build it, people will come.

A laptop that doubles as a portable LCD tv? How can you argue with that!

The PC World article is exactly why these so-called traditional personal computing magazines are losing their subscriber base. Being definitive in their speculation on a rumor, coming from a big name magazine. I'm amazed at the ever-declining quality of these magazines. But I have to admit, it's a good link-bait.

That's a good take. Apple has been letting the Apple TV languish for quite some time with no response to increasing number of features being offered by other devices. While Apple doesn't always see the need to respond tit for tat some Apple TV users have demonstrated a desire for a broader feature set. The features might include Hulu, Netflix, DVR functionality etc.

While I'm on it the PC magazine article was quite stale and shortsighted. But hey, it got the article bookmarked and discussed. Maybe that was the entire point.

Think the PC World article is helpful even if only to spur conversation on this topic. With Hulu et.al. offering nice-res video, connecting the app and content to the device seems a good logical next step.

In the interim, I do wish the guys in Cupertino would develop the Apple TV platform a bit more to help bridge the gap until Apple Tablet is available (or for those who won't ever get one) -- or make their abandonment of the platform more official.

Not sure where you get the idea that Apple is abandoning the AppleTV. There was a new software update just last week.
